Big fight from a little man.

Yee Nevin. I know some days are so difficult. You get sad and frustrated. Seems like mother nature just doesnt want you to go out side. And mommy and dad just keep saying no. But I promise it will get better.

It seems lately Nevin has been loosing control of his temper more and more. He is having a hard time with impulse control. I wish I could say I had addressed the problem but with a little boy with autism its not so simple. I keep praying we can guide him threw this quickly. But I know in my heart it will be another long road. I just hope he knows that despite having to say know and inforce rules. Mommy and daddy love him very very much. And we always will no matter how tough things get.

Old fashioned thoughts.

Its been a while sense I posted to this but I wanted to start again. Maybe have a place to vent some thoughts. For those of you who are reading this and do not know me. This blog is about my wife and I akd our two small children with autism. And its important that it is stated as two children "with " autism and not autistic children. The first thing you will notice about my babies is their autism does not define them.

Today I saw my grandfathers domino set on the shelf. He passed away about 10 years ago. He never had the chance to see either of his great grand babies. I know he would have loved them if he could have. Unfortunatly he passed early due to health problems.

But back to my point. The domino set pictured here might look old. It is. It was made in the early 80s maybe late 70s. Its a cheap set and has little financial value. But its not the dominos that matter. Its the memories attached to them.

I remember as a child we all spent alot of time together as an extended family. My parents my brother and I. My aunts and uncles and their kids. And my grandparents.

We would get together to spend time relaxing and just being a family. But thw times I remember most are the game nights. We would always play one of two games. Progressive rummy. "Which is an insane card game that can last for hours". Or dominos. Old fashioned slap the table dominos.

I remember this the most because of the smiles and laughter. When grandmaw armstrong player " my great grandmother" she would always cheat. But at her age who is to argue. Back to the point. We would have long nights of fun and family time playing games and even if you had some fights that day no one cared. It was as it never happened. The family always forgave.

I still remember the first time my grand father invited me over to the adult table to play games with them. Instead of go fish with my brother and cousins.   But I felt like king of the world. I wad a big boy now. And grandpaw actually let me touch his dominos.

It was family. It was memories. And while there were good and bad times. You were never alone. We were always a family.

Lol I havent kept up with this in a LONG while but i think its about time i start again.

things have been coming a long way with Nevin and Isa. Nevin has made me so proud he is trying so hard to talk and try new foods. And any one with an autistic child knows how hard that can be for him.

Nevin is using a few words now like AGAIN!!!! and he uses it correctly when asking for something again.

Isa is off the bottle now and on to a sippy cup and drinking tang now.

We have been having a GREAT summer o Fun even in the back yard.

see!!

Im so proud of them both. They are growing up so much.  I love those two crazies of mine.

Out for now. Later

A few crazy weeks.

Well school year is coming to an end. My mother in law has been in the hospital for cancer treatment .
Things have been complicated. Nevin has been regressing in some things but moving forward in others.

He is such a happy little man. I wish sometimes the rest of us could learn from him.

Oh well Ill be posting more later

Dad

P.S. The blog name will be changing to something that is closer to my son. His nick name is boogie woogie as he loves to dance. So I figured that would work.

Been a couple days

Its been a couple days. The whole family hasn't been feeling well. Seems Isa is starting to feel better. I have to reschedule her doctors appointment tomorrow for Thursday maybe. Or Friday so i have a Car. but she seems happy today so that is a good sign.

Nevin had to miss school today because he is sick. He only has wed this week left now. We are still uncertain if we are sending him or not. I pray both of them feel better soon. Mommy and daddy could deal with feeling better soon too lol

Do I regret or do I say thank you?

Im not sure any more what to think. When my son was diagnosed with Autism it was so "obvious" and easy to swallow. after all it was what we had expected the problem to be. Now I find my self doubting. Im lost as to what to do for my little angel. I just want what is best for him. Why does this have to be such a fight?
They say we live in a modern society of compassion and equality. Daily I see this is not true. My wife and I have had to fight tooth and nail for our son and what is best for him. Why should we have to fight our own government to get him what he needs to move on with his life.

"Son I promise I will never stop fighting for you. I love you and your sister and Mother. I cant give up on you and I will not settle for the crap. No one will get in my way of making sure you have everything you need. "

Good night people

Dad.

I love you son. Always.

Daddy.
